Garden Sums

Privacy notice

Garden Sums is built to need as little of your data as possible. You can use every calculator without an account, and your measurements never leave your browser.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Fernando Margareto, who runs Garden Sums from Yátova (Valencia), Spain. You can write to info@gardensums.co.uk about anything on this page. Full identification details are in the legal notice.

This notice is written for the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and for the EU General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) together with Spain's data protection law.

What the calculators do with your measurements

Nothing leaves your device. The calculators run in your browser. The measurements you type, and the results, are not sent to Garden Sums or to anyone else. Your choice of metres or feet, and your last calculation on each calculator, are saved in your browser's local storage so that the Restore last calculation button works. The cookies page lists what is stored and how to delete it.

When you contact us

If you use the contact form or write by email, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and your message.

  • Why: to read and answer your message, and to correct the site if you report a problem.
  • Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us (Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR).
  • How long: for as long as needed to deal with your message, and then no more than 12 months, unless the exchange needs to be kept to deal with a legal claim.
  • Who else sees it: the message is delivered through the email service of our hosting provider, Hostinger, which handles it for us as a processor. It is not shared with anyone else and is never used for marketing.

To stop the form being flooded, the contact script keeps a one-way, salted fingerprint of your IP address (not the address itself) for one hour and counts how many messages it has sent. Nothing else is recorded.

Server logs

Like any website, the pages are delivered by a web server. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, the pages requested, the date and time and the browser used, to keep the service secure and working. We do not use these logs to identify visitors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

Analytics

Garden Sums does not use analytics or tracking tools. The fonts and images are served from this site, so loading a page does not contact any other company.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how it is used, and to receive a copy in a portable format. Write to info@gardensums.co.uk; we will answer within one month.

If you are unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK (ico.org.uk) or to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es), or to the authority where you live in the EU. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Children

The site is meant for adults planning garden work. It does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If the way the site handles data changes, this notice will be updated and the date below will change.
